Since I saw no board particularly made for works of literature... Here goes. I just have to get this off my chest, and since I haven't been on DevArt for moons, I'ma share this here. If you don't want to read a long, sob-story about me, then go create a bio or something, don't blame me for wasting your time...
And as she watched him walk out of the cafeteria for the last time, she felt all those feelings come rushing back. It was almost like it was August again, and they were still speaking, still texting, still IMing. But in the back of her mind , the sane part, she knew they weren't. Sure, she'd talk to him if he spoke to her, but she no longer went out of her way to have a conversation with the first boy she had ever loved. After he'd resorted to not talking to her, so as to make graduation easier, the sophomore girl had tried her best to forget him. But in the many months that followed, she soon realized she couldn't. Yes, she had told her friends that she had officially gotten over him... But she had still been able to see him every day, and the ache wasn't so bad. But now that he was gone, never again to walk Norwin Senior High School as a student, she could feel her whole world crashing down around her.
What could she say? Elizabeth and Ashley said she should say good-bye... Yeah right, like he actually wanted her to. And if he really cared enough, then he would say good-bye, and they would hug like he did with all his other friends on his last day. A bittersweet memory sprung up at this thought: Her birthday. He'd missed that day at school, but like always, came to band practice at night. She grilled him for not being there on her birthday, and he gave her a hug after practice ended. For being such a skinny punk, it was the best, and best-smelling, hug she had ever received. She would never be able to forget that smell, or that laugh, or that smile.
She thought somewhat, but hardly, excitedly about tomorrow night. It was the Band Banquet, the night when all the band members got together to reflect on the previous season, organized by the seniors. And yep, he had helped organize it, but he wouldn't be there to attend. For Mr. Baritone Section was joining a Drum Corp, the reason he had left so early. And she realized, with a small jolt, she had grown so much since her freshman Band Banquet. She had learned what it was like to be in love with someone, to have to let go for their sake because they didn't want you anymore. And she wished, and she yearned with every bone in her body, that it was her freshman year. The year when they had finally starting talking, though it was her sophomore year she would never forget. But no... It was the end of her sophomore year, and her senior Crownie was gone. He wouldn't tell her she looked like Little Red Riding hood in her red dress and flats and she wouldn't be furious a week later after finding out he had been missing while the other band members danced because he was with his girlfriend.
No, she would paste on that oh-so-familiar smile and go about the get-together like she wasn't broken inside. Like it didn't matter that he wasn't there, that someone was missing. She wouldn't voice the fact that she had been fine Friday during Chemistry, almost forgetting it was his last day. She was too busy worrying about her soaked lab worksheet, because Brandon has squirted it three-too many times with distilled water. But once she got to lunch and the school-day ended, her heart had fallen apart again. Getting home, she realized no more tears would come. After months of falling asleep crying, glistening eyes and a lump in her throat was all that would come. She didn't know what this summer would bring, but she hoped it was someone who would love her like she always wished he would have. Maybe it was the boy on her soccer team, the one she continued to like even though her heart was shattered. Maybe not... But this girl realized a couple things from her sophomore year... A couple things she would never forget, along with those heart-stopping baby-blue eyes...
Sometimes you have to let someone go because that's what they need. Maybe they were never yours to begin with, so they'll go anyways. And even though you might not talk as much as you used to... Maybe you'll always have a friend in that person. And even though he never wrote a note back, you're still going to write him a letter, telling him how much you miss him after acting slightly warmer towards you, in the same neon pink colored pencil you wrote him those notes in. And one last thing...
The first boy's always the hardest </3
